Architects of Air 2012


The Architects of Air “luminarium” is a monumental inflatable structure, a dazzling maze of tunnels and soaring domes that immerses visitors in the beauty of light and color.  Each luminarium consists of panels of uniquely-produced plastic, fastened on-site to occupy nearly 11,000 square feet.  An interplay of Gothic cathedrals and Islamic architecture, the structure is anchored and then, in just 20 minutes, inflated to its monumental size.                                     (Taken from http://midtowncrossing.com/events/architects-of-air/)

Counterparts sold tickets, answered questions at the ticket office, and assisted in event experience interaction designed to create a memorable guest visit.  We partnered with Midtown by assisting with crowd control, as traffic exceeded 10,000 guests including early morning surges that were handled with composure and professionalism. Counterparts was asked to change the box office times to a whole hour earlier than usual due to the incredible heat that day.  At a moment’s notice and without hesitation our experienced concierges were able to set up shop and open the ticket office an hour earlier to accommodate guest needs. 

Thank you Midtown Crossing for allowing us the unique opportunity to participate in this outstanding event.  Proceeds from ticket sales were donated directly from Midtown Crossing to the Nebraska Arts Council.  We hope to see the Architects of Air luminarium again in Omaha in years to come.

Questions you should be asking your concierge provider

While a day consists of 24 hours, sometimes our busy schedules make it seem like there are severely fewer hours in the day to get the important things done.  Trying to balance work, family, and leisure time can often be a struggle for the common business person working 40+ hours a week.  That being said, Concierge services are becoming a more efficient way for families, businessmen, businesswomen, and anyone in between to complete errands without having to leave the family or risk a low in production.  The only thing often holding people back from utilizing such helpful services from concierge providers is this reoccurring question:  How can I allow a stranger to complete some tasks that sometimes can be personal?
To help answer this question, it may be of interest to you to ask questions before turning away concierge services without thought.  The following is a list of questions you should consider asking the next time you interview a concierge service provider who you are trusting to help you get caught up on your day. 

Are your employees fully insured and bonded?
As a rule, all employees should be fully insured and bonded.  By hiring an insured and bonded concierge/errand service, you are protecting yourself from loss, as well as choosing a service that is responsible and professional.  Make sure to ask not only about liability insurance, but also, messenger insurance which covers your items while they are being transported between locations.

Are your employees fully trained?  What kind of training do they go through?
Before fully committing to a concierge, look for answers to this question that is along the lines of the following keywords: Time Management, Business Etiquette, Confidentiality, Professionalism, and Utmost Quality Service.  You should make it a priority to find concierge providers that offer trustworthy, professional service.  

Can your employees help us with notary matters?
It can be to your benefit to choose a service with licensed notaries.  This way, they have the ability to validate and witness financial and legal documents that you may have.  

What can I expect from your company in regards to my confidentiality?
A professional concierge service requires all of their employees to undergo extensive confidentiality training.  With this training, you can rely on your concierge service providers to keep your information under lock and key, keeping it safely away from anyone that does not need to know your personal information.  In addition, all employees are required to sign a confidentiality agreement in order to minimize the exposure of your privacy. 

How do you insure the Security of my possessions?
Concierge services not only have proper insurance in place, but also have policies in place to assure basic security of your items while they are being transported.  For example: Our employees are trained on proper handling and transporting of customer possessions.
What kind of response to my emails and phone calls can I expect?

DYI Weddings

Are you a Do-it-yourself’er? When I planned my wedding I was. I loved all the planning, preparing and creating, but when it came time to enjoy the wedding day, I didn’t have anyone to turn over all the details to so I could just enjoy the day.

Top ten ways to work faster, smarter, and better with less pain!

People struggle at work every day. And they always have. But in our adrenaline based society, too many of us sit at our desk and die quietly inside, as we dawdle away our time doing neither what we ought or what we want. This list details some simple (if a little odd,) things you can do that will give you much more energy at work, and help you get it all done faster.

10.) Go to bed at the same time every night. Sleep management is critical for success. Even if you go to bed rather late, it’s better to lose sleep consistently than to have a fuzzily defined sleep schedule. This is because if you go to bed at different times each night, your body won’t be able to distinguish between sleep time and work time. Going to bed at the same time every night is the best way to keep from being drowsy at work.

9.) Eat balanced food groups. Even if you eat too much, eating foods in proportion is not only a great way to lose weight, it’s also important to make sure that you will perform well at work.

8.) Eat meals, not snacks. Snacking throughout the day may feel better, but eating solid meals is the best way to give your body the energy it needs at predictable intervals. Similarly to sleep, your body needs to have a schedule for food intake in order to maximize your energy.

7.) Wake up at the same time very morning. While going to bed at the same time is important, waking up at the same time is far more important. By teaching your body to wake up at a certain time, mornings will be less painful. Not only that, but you’ll wake up feeling fresher, and you will come from sleep to full work-ready alertness much, much faster.

6.) Break for lunch. Health benefits aside, the most important reason to do this is for your focus. The human mind can handle intense focus for a while, but you need a break to be at your most efficient.

5.) Turn on your lights where you’re working. Even if you can see what you’re doing, as a rule of thumb, more light is better. There are photo-receptors in your eyes that release chemicals in your brain at different levels of light. They produce melatonin (sleepiness,) when it’s dark, and serotonin (happiness) and adrenaline (self-evident,) when it’s light. By turning on your lights you will have more energy, and incidentally, you’ll also have more melatonin available when it’s time to sleep!

4.) Take time out to plan. This is crucial. If you have no idea what the general state of your task is, it’s very easy to feel bogged down, like you’ll never finish. Taking time out before you start to give a quick overview to your calendar, schedule, agenda, or syllabus is a great way to get a bird’s-eye-view of what needs to be done, and helps you keep tasks in perspective. Having a good idea of how much work you have helps motivate you do get it done faster.

3.) Organize your workspace. If you’re having trouble getting started, clean off your desk and organize your drawers! A lot of people claim not to be organized people, and that’s okay. But if you feel like you just can’t get motivated to start, having an organized workspace will help you get a head start and be more efficient at work.

2.) Set realistic goals. When your goals exceed your capability, it’s easy to feel like there’s no point to what you’re doing. This ties in to the taking time to plan section as well. Make sure you have daily goals for your work that are attainable. Setting realistic goals is crucial to being more efficient at work.

And finally, the number one way to get more done at work…

1.) Start. Don’t blow it off just yet, give me a paragraph. If you’re reading this, chances are that your real trouble with not getting anything done at work is due to not being able to get started. Time frittered away staring at nothing, and playing with office trinkets. The point of this number one tip is not to suck it up and deal with it. Just start the work. Pick a task, preferably the most urgent, and just do a little bit of it. Instead of mentally trying to grapple the whole day’s work, just start a small task. Once you do so, autonomy will take over, and you will quickly find that the work isn’t so overwhelming after all.
